Home, Lawn and Garden - Managing Pests

Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is an approach to controlling pests such as insects, spiders and mice that uses regular monitoring and inspections to determine if and when treatments are needed. IPM employs a combination of strategies and tactics to prevent pest damage or annoyance. Biological, cultural, physical, mechanical, educational, and chemical methods are used in site-specific combinations to solve pest problems.

Are you having problems with insects, spiders, and more… if so, check out Insects, Spiders, Mice & More from UNL Extension in Lancaster County for resources to help identify and find solutions in dealing with these pests.

To learn more about IPM, specifically in school environments, visit IPM easy as ABC.

The Department of Entomology’s Urban Pest Management Program conducts the annual Urban Pest Management Conference, provides information on public health pests, and does research to help determine innovative ways to control pests such as termites, ants and cockroaches.

Do you have questions about pesticides or how to become certified to apply pesticides? UNL Extension’s Pesticide Safety Education Program has the answers.

The introduction of Emerald Ash Borer, or EAB to North America has resulted in the loss of millions of ash trees, in landscapes, nurseries, woodlots, and forests. Even though it has not yet been found in Nebraska, it has been detected in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Maryland, and also in Ontario, Canada.

If you suspect that you have found emerald ash borer in Nebraska, please first contact your local Extension Office to verify or disqualify your find.  For more information and frequently asked questions, visit Nebraska Emerald Ash Borer Resources.
